10851 Pieternelle Bessie Dykshoorn, the daughter of Bas and Martha (Herrewynen) Dekker, was born November 14, 1928 in Boyden, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Sheldon, where she received her education, graduating from Sheldon High School.

Nell married Lowell Dykshoorn and to this marriage 3 children were born. Nell and Lowell owned and operated Lindsay Water Softener Company for several years. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.

Nell passed away unexpectedly at her home in Spencer on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell in 2013; her daughter, Cheryl Buren; a son-in-law, Byron Roos; one brother, Leonard Dekker and a sister, Marie Veen.

Left to cherish her memory are a daughter; one son; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; one brother, Jacob Dekker of Worthington, MN; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Jan Dykshoorn of Sheldon, IA; other relatives and friends.

10852 Plona Cupery, 97, formerly of Beaver Creek, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne.

A funeral service was Saturday, Oct. 20, at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne with burial at Beaver Creek Cemetery.

Plona Verhey was born June 4, 1915, to Klaas and Lucretia (VanDis) Verhey on the farm west of Hills in Martin Township. She was raised on the farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. Following her education, she remained on the farm to help her family.

On April 29, 1937, Plona married Charles Cupery on her parents' farm near Hills. Following their marriage the couple moved to Valley Springs, S.D. She worked as a janitor for the Reformed Church. In early 1942 the family moved to Randolf, Wis. One year later the family moved to Madison, Wis. In November of 1943 Plona and her family moved to Beaver Creek. On Dec. 6, 1943, her husband was drafted and entered the service. During this time Plona and her children moved into a house in Beaver Creek. In 1945 Charles returned from the service. A short time later the couple divorced. Plona continued to provide for and raise their children. She worked at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne, at the Beaver Creek school as a janitor, and wallpapered rooms in houses for many people's homes. In June of 2006 she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Creek, where she was a part of Circle and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and crafting and loved listening to Daniel O'Donnell.

Plona is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Buddi, Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Cornie Verhey, Beaver Creek; a daughter-in-law, Karla Cupery, Fort Collins, Colo.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lucy Cupery; a son, John Cupery; a son-in-law, Barry Buddi; three siblings, John, Frank, and Minnie; and a sister-in-law, LaVonne Verhey.

10856 Rose Van Ottterloo, 89, of Hull died Thursday, September 15, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Funeral servicewas Monday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. Interment was at Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Mrs. Van Otterloo was born on December 31, 1915, at Rock Valley, the daughter of Bastiaan and Jennie (Gritters) Nobel.

She was raised at Rock Valley. She graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull and attended college the equivalent of two years. For 21 years, she was a teacher in country schools in the Rock Valley and Hull areas and in the Sioux Center and Hull Christian Schools.

On July 22, 1955, she married Herman J. Van Otterloo in
Hull. They made their home just south of Hull and later moved into Hull. He died June 14, 1992, in Hull, after more than 36 years of marriage.

In May of 2004, she became a resident of Pleasant Acres.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in the Helping Hands Society. She also served as the church secretary for 25 years and was the soldiers' secretary during World War II.

She enjoyed crocheting and quilting and gave afghans and quilts to all her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Harlan and Connie Van Otterloo of Hospers; three stepchildren and their spouses, Melvin and Lucille Van Otterloo, of Hull, Harriet and Corwin Doelieslager of Sioux Center and James and Thelma Van Otterloo of Ripon, California; five grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; 23 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Burdett Van Otterloo; a step-great-grandchild; two brothers, Henry and John Nobel; and two sisters, Delia and Magdalena Van Otterloo.

Memorials will be directed to the Hull Christian School.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Frank Verhey, 84, Luverne, formerly of Beaver Creek, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Center in Luverne.

Frank Verhey was born to Klass and Lucretia (Van Dis) Verhey on Feb. 3, 1920, in Martin Township, rural Hills.

He married Elleda Brekke on June 14, 1947, in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Rock County and Minnehaha County, S.D. areas. In 1964, the couple moved to Beaver Creek where they owned and operated The Home Plate Café. They sold the café in 1966 when he went to work at the stockyards in Sioux Falls, S.D. He retired in 1995. The couple moved to Luverne in September 2000.

Mr. Verhey was a former member of Beaver Valley Lutheran Church in Valley Springs, S.D., and a current member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. He enjoyed hobby farming and helping area farmers in the fields. He also enjoyed sitting in his garage and visiting with neighbors.

Survivors include his wife, Elleda Verhey, Luverne; one daughter, Fran (Bob) Meester, Luverne; one granddaughter, Missy Meester, Sioux Falls; one brother, Cornie (LaVonne) Verhey, Beaver Creek; one sister, Plona Cupery, Beaver Creek; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Verhey was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Verhey, and one sister, Minnie Verhey.

Dingmann Funeral Home, Luverne, is in charge of arrangements.

10862 SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Ann De Groot, 87, of Sioux Center died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with the Rev. John Witvliet officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with family present 2 to 3:30 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Mrs. De Groot was born April 18, 1915, in Zuidland, Netherlands, the daughter of August and Maria (Palsrock) Breevaart. She married Cornelius "Casey" De Groot. He died Nov. 12, 1999.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Elizabeth (Bessie) Zoeteman passed away at the Extendicare in Fort Macleod on Monday, December 2, 2002 at the age of 97 years.
Bessie was born in Hull, Iowa, on March 30, 1905, to Jacob and Leentje Leeuwrick and at the age of four years she moved with her family to the Pearce district. She was raised and attended school at Pearce and later married Isaac Zoeteman on December 21, 1926. They made their home on the farm at Pearce where they farmed and raised registered Hereford cattle. Bessie loved gardening and looking after her flowers in the summer. She was a faithful member of the Red Cross for many years and spent many hours sewing, knitting, and crocheting quilts and afghans. She enjoyed music and playing cards and even at 95 years of age was a very good cribbage player. Bessie remained on the farm until August 1996. She moved to the Macleod Pioneer Lodge in Fort Macleod where she made many new friends. She was then transferred to the Extendicare on March 1, 2001, where she lived until her passing. She was the longest living resident of Pearce, having lived there 87 years.
Bessie is survived by her daughter, Lena Laidlaw, two sons, Sam and Robert (Fern), daughter-in-law Kit, as well as ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Bessie was predeceased by her husband Isaac in 1984, son Larry in 2000, son-in-law Donald Laidlaw in 1987, two grandsons Trenton in 1975, and Andy in 1997, two sisters Janet in 1913 and Nellie in 1996, and one brother Johnny in 1918.
The family wish to thank the personnel of the Macleod Pioneer Lodge and the Extendicare and the medical staff for their kindness and care they have given to Bessie over the past six years.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity United Church, Fort Macleod, with Reverend Aldeen McKay officiating. Interent in the Union Cemetery, Fort Macleod.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley under the direction of Andringa Funeral Home, Sheldon.

Tena DeBruyn, daughter of John. and Anna Steenhoven, was born October 4, 1894 in the Netherlands. She came to live in the United States at the age of 10 and attended school at Boyden.

She married Dick Ver Mulm at Boyden in 1915. He died in 1950.

She married Sam DeBruyn in 1952. He died in 1967.

Survivors include her daughter, Marie (Mrs. Pete) DeKam of Sheldon; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Mabel (Mrs. Mike) Wagenaar of Sheldon; 10 step-grandchildren; and 20 step-great-grandchildren.
